Is it $75 each week, or for the whole course?
The price is $75 + tax ($80.44) Total for the 8 week course
The Exception is our Hickory area locations – unfortunately we have to pay higher rental fees for training in this area, these classes are $80 for the 8 week course
Are there any Breed Restrictions?
Absolutely NOT! We welcome all the “scary” pooches, Including (but not limited to) Pit Bulls, Shepherds, Cane Corsos, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Chihuahuas and Dachshunds. The only exceptions are Wolf Hybrids (any content) – these are accepted in class dependent on county ordinances. For example, it is illegal to own or possess a Wolf Hybrid (of any content level) in Mecklenburg County, therefore these dogs would not be allowed in the Mecklenburg Co Classes.” Mecklenburg Co Code of Ordinances Article I Section 3-3 & III Section 3-73 (Click the link to Read the Mecklenburg Co Wolf Hybrid Laws). While Lincoln Co allows Wolf Hybrids with proper Permits, they would not be allowed in the Denver Class due to the restriction that they must be kept 2500ft away from any public playground – which is not possible at our Denver Training Location. Lincoln Co Code of Ordinances Title IX, Chapter 92.25-28 (Click the link to Read the Lincoln Co Wolf Hybrid Laws)
How old do puppies need to be to take class?
If your puppy is old enough to come home with you, they are old enough for training! Though, it is recommended that they have their first round of shots before the first day of class. Dogs will not have direct contact during class, keeping puppies safe from dog – dog transmitted diseases & illnesses
Is my dog too old to learn obedience?
Never! Old dogs CAN learn new tricks! Our oldest graduate was 13 years old, and he was the Salutatorian of his class! The Average Dog taking our Basic Obedience Course is between 1-3yrs old.
Do I stay with my dog during class?
Yes! We train you to train your dog. This has several benefits. You learn the training skills needed to be consistent with training, therefore your dog has Lasting Results from training. Also, you are not reliant on a trainer the next time your dog misbehaves, you have the skills to handle the common issues that arise.
Are children allowed to participate in training?
Yes! We encourage the entire family to participate in training. However, we do recommend that younger children come after week 3 – this way the dog has a basic understanding of ground rules before involving a small person who is easily frustrated. Children age 12+ may fully take the class while their parent watches from the sidelines. All persons under 18 must have an accompanying adult. The Exception is our Lucky Dog Classes – these are 21+ establishments, since they are Bars.
What if I need to miss a class?
All classes are broadcast Live on your class’ Private FB Page – these stay up all week, allowing you to catch up anytime before the next week!
Are classes Outdoors? What if it Rains?
Our Indoor classes are Cornelius and Uptown – all other classes are outdoors in Parks or other well-lit flat areas of Partner Businesses. This means for most classes, we do have to cancel occasionally due to weather. If this happens, we will simply bump class back 1 week, and pick up the next week. You don’t miss out on any class time if the weather isn’t cooperative. This also means, it is Hot in the Summer and Cold in the Winter – Dress Appropriately. Luckily, NC is a very mild climate and it’s never super super cold or super super hot for long 🙂
What do I need to bring for class?
All you need for class is your dog on a non-retractable leash and some treats. Treat choice is important, milk bones and similar treats are not often valuable enough to keep their attention during a group class. Consider bringing several types of treats – hotdogs, cheese, dehydrated beef liver are all HIGH value treats, while soft, smelly training treats are mid value and milkbone type treats are LOW value. *Every dog is different, some dogs flip their lid over off brand cardboard variety treats! You know your dog!
What if I need to miss a class?
Every Class is recorded Live on a Private Class FB Page. You can go back and watch this video anytime that week – allowing you to keep up, even if you have something else come up on the day of class!
